| Thanks to
668 members for supporting the work of coldwaterwarning.com We know we have
made a difference and plan to continue to do so with respect to awareness among
young people of the danger of cold water - particularly to swimmers. Below
is a copy of Tim's letter to AFSCME members as to how to contribute to coldwaterwarning.com
by way of the current Council Charitable Campaign. If you could send it to
the members or post it on your website that would be most appreciated. Thanks
again. Ron Jacobson

668 Members FROM: Tim O'Donnell 651-602-1269 SUBJECT: Council
Charitable Campaign On behalf of the non-profit organization coldwaterwarning.com,
founded by MCES employee Ron Jacobson, I want to ask for your support if you have
not already made a donation or pledge during this year's Council Charitable Campaign. As
many of you know, Ron's grandson Brian drowned in April of 2004 at the age of
9. The extremely cold water in the lake near his home quickly paralyzed Brian's
muscles, leaving him unable to swim to safety - all before emergency responders
could arrive and long before hypothermia normally would set in. Ron, along
with co-workers Karen Jensen and Claude Anderson, established the non-profit coldwaterwarning.com
to warn children and parents about the dangers of cold water. They've developed
an interactive website http://www.coldwaterwarning.com/
to educate people and tell Brian's tragic story. They've held well-attended press
conferences the last two springs to spread their message widely through the local
news media, and they've distributed buttons and bookmarkers warning about cold
water dangers.Your support through the Charitable Campaign - or any time during
the year - will help coldwaterwarning.com continue these and new public education
efforts. On the pledge form you received at work, you can donate to us through
any of the first four federations listed in the form. On the line marked "Designated
Agency," you can fill in "coldwaterwarning. com", and include our
address: P.O. Box 1880. St. Paul, MN 55101-0880. Thank you for your consideration,
and we would greatly appreciate your support! Note: coldwaterwarning.com
is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation in Minnesota. Contributions are deductible
under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.
