In Honor of our late Brother Lanny Bakalyar, Local 668 funds one $1,000 scholarship each year. A winner and an alternate will be drawn by lot during the March General Membership meeting, March 26th. The member must be present to win.

Eligibility

Only members of AFSCME Local 668 may submit applications on behalf of their children.

  • Please note this scholarship is for the children/legal dependents of members – not the members themselves.
  • To be eligible to apply on behalf of your child/legal dependent, you must be:
  • A full member of AFSCME Local 668 for at least 90 days prior to the date of the drawing (by December 27th); or
  • Have transferred or hired into the bargaining unit within 90 days of the drawing and be a full member; and
  • The parent or legal guardian of the child.

Eligible students must be:

  • Enrolled the current high school graduating class; or
  • Enrolled in a post-secondary school, no more than five years after high school graduation (i.e., the student graduated between 2015-2019); AND
  • will use the scholarship within one year of the drawing at an accredited a post-secondary school, including colleges, universities, vocational, or technical/ trade schools.
    • Winners must provide evidence to the Local that their eligible student has used the scholarship at an eligible school within one year of the drawing, or they will forfeit the scholarship to the alternate winner.

Applications

  • Number of applications:
    • Eligible parents or legal guardians may submit one application on behalf of each eligible student.
    • Student applicants are eligible to win only once.
    • If more than one member is the parent or legal guardian of an eligible student (i.e., both parents work for the Council and are full members of Local 668), only one application will be considered for that student.
  • Application deadline: February 7th, 2020 by 11:59 PM
    • Applications must be complete and submitted to [email protected]
    • No exceptions. If an application is received after the deadline, it will not be considered, regardless of the reason for missing the deadline. Members are strongly encouraged to submit their applications by email.
    • All applications will be confirmed by email. If you submit an application and did not get a confirming email, please contact Jacquelyn at [email protected] in time to submit a replacement application before the deadline.
